Multnomah Village Christmas Cool

‘Twas one of the nights before Christmas when all through the house, many creatures were stirring…

IMAG1831Mostly in the form of shopkeepers doing overtime duty in final preparation for the Season Finale.  This day came to life with IMAG1827a maple puff pastry Danish from Grand Central Bakery in Multnomah Village.  Delicioso.

I think of Portland as The City of Small;  that is, the neighborhoods are self-contained, like a super-small-scale New York City.  So, in Multnomah Village there’s Grand Central;  there are eclectic food hangouts like Village Hut, Fat City Café, Marco’s Café and Espresso Bar; and bookstores such as Annie Bloom’s. (apologies to Powell’s)

And what to my wondering eyes did appear…

IMAG1852There’s a sweet little wine bar, Sip D’Vine, whose cabaret interior décor does a Moulin Rouge-type job of showcasing its product.  IIMAG1860 expected spontaneous can-can to arise.  Along with an Evesham Wood 2012 WV Pinot Noir, my friend, Jan, and I feasted on the most voluptuous hunk of Golden Glen IMAG1858Creamery 1-year old Gouda.  Schmoozed with new friends in wine.  Do you see a day developing here…

With a little old driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick..

IMAG1850And so, it should be no wonder that keeping an eye over the Multnomah Village parade of activities was the super-cool Santa associate who sat on the Avenue as the official season overseer.

Clearly, Christmas takes all shapes, and celebrating the season is as limitless in its opportunities as are the characters who celebrate it.
